The application to import can be found on the AUC Doggies Playgroup Facebook Page.
  5. Upon approval, Ms. Jones will send you an import permit via email within 2-3 business days.

At the airline present the following documentation: international health certificate, import permit, rabies certificate, and statement of acclimation (if temperatures are below 45 F or above 85 F at any destination on the day of travel. You can get this document from your vet).

You'll notice that there is a lot to do in a very short period of time, so adequate planning is paramount. There is very little room for error in this process.

It’s much easier to return to the states with a dog then it is to get here. To Return to the U.S. over break etc, you need to obtain an International health certificate from one of the Island Vets and make sure all vaccinations are current, including rabies.

It is suggested you obtain this form 7 days or less before travel back to the states.

You do not need to apply for any permits to return to the U.S. If you are returning back to the island after break, you can apply for
your return permit when you are leaving the island and use the same health certificate from your Island Vet.

If you are unsure of anything, you can email Ms. Jones at
lvv@sintmaarten.org. She generally answers questions rather quickly
(although not always clearly).

Other important information whether bringing your pup from home or adopting a Coconut Retriever here on the island

*Flea & Tick and Heartworm meds are crucial.
Mosquitos and Ticks are everywhere on the island, Heart worm, and Tick
Fever is a common illness if you don’t take precautions. They can be
purchased from island Vets, ordered online and shipped here, or purchased
at the pharmacy by SuperU on the French side.

*Keep your pet updated on all vaccinations
Parvo and Distemper are all over the island. As long as your dog is
updated on all their vaccines they are safe.
If you have brought a young pup with you or adopted a pup that does not yet have all sets of shots, consider leaving them home when you go to places like the beach or golf course until they are fully protected.
